I love it when my skin loves me back! It goes without saying, that feeling of glowing, dewy skin is UNBEATABLE!
Besides having the good ol’ hormones in my favor during specific periods, staying hydrated and having a consistent skincare routine have revealed to me how easy it is to achieve that glow. The key is to understand your skin type and consequently find the proper products that work for you.
Contrary to popular belief, renowned dermatologist Dr. Ava Shamban of SKINFIVE confirms that “Anyone can achieve that glow. It is absolutely a myth that only those blessed with beautiful skin can have glowing skin.”
Seeing that I am not a dermatologist or skincare expert, I sometimes find it challenging to talk about skincare from a generalized scope. All the same, I will share what has worked for my skin so far.
For context, my skin type is normal.
Alright, now that we have that out of the way, here is my basic skincare routine that has kept my skin cleansed, happy, and glowing.
Step One: Cleanse
Cleansing the skin is always a good place to start as it rids dirt and preps the skin for the next steps. My cleansing holy grail is black soap and this Facial Skincare Massager & Scrubber.

Step Two: Mask/Scrub
On a routine basis, I love masking with the Garnier Pure Active 3 In 1 Charcoal AntiBlackhead Mask Wash Scrub, and my skin has loved me for it. If you have oily skin, you might want to try out a deep cleansing clay mask like this Aztec clay mask or Bentonite Clay.
When experimenting with a mask, be sure to start slow to avoid irritating your skin.
Side Note: I mask three times a week. On other days, I just lightly scrub with the mentioned product and proceed to step three.
Step Three: Booster
The mask used in step two works deeply into the skin and in step three, I focus on a product that will rejuvenate and heal the skin. This Aloe Vera Soothing Gel does magic on my skin. I apply it as a mask and leave it for three minutes to absorb all its goodness. This product leaves a dewy, glass-like finish on my skin, which makes me so happy.
Alternative to the aloe vera gel, sometimes I use this Garnier Skin Active Hydrabomb Face Mask, which has a similar refreshing and glowing feel. Either of these products immediately transforms skin from thirsty to deeply quenched.
Step Four: Moisturize
Just like cleansing, moisturizing is the other super important step that should never be left out in any daily skincare routine. A moisturizer protects the skin from losing moisture, leaving it plump and supple. Coconut oil serves as a perfect moisturizer for my skin.
There you have it! My basic skincare routine. So far, this has been working for me and I’m not looking to change it, and if I do, it will be in slow steps to make sure it works for me.
In conclusion, all that you need is to figure out the basics about your skin, and this will direct the products that you use and your entire routine.
