Trying Some Top-Rated DIY Face Masks for a Glowing Skin – Here’s What I Think

The key to a glowing skin might just be in your kitchen!

I have previously talked about my love for natural, easy-to-access products when it comes to skincare. With us being stuck inside at the moment, one fun project I took on was trying different face mask recipes.

It is one of the things that has helped me feel sane during this social distancing period.

I love DIY masks for several reasons. One is that you know exactly what you are putting on your face. That way, you can customize it to suit your skin’s need at that moment. Second, the process of making a face mask is pretty therapeutic, and third, homemade masks are cost-effective.

I tried some of the top-rated DIY face masks specific for glowing skin, and here’s what I think:

1. Honey + Milk + Turmeric FACE Mask

This is my all-time favorite homemade mask because of its two-in-one benefits: deals with acne and keeps the skin soothed and moisturized. I have talked about this mask in much more detail in my article on the seven selfcare hacks that I swear by  but I still had to top this list. Be sure to check it out!

2. Avocado Face Mask

Avocado is often praised as an excellent superfood for the skin so it had to join the list. Hey, worry not, avocado lovers; you only need a really small portion (say an eighth of the avocado) for a one-time application and then you can eat the rest!

What you will need for a Single Application:

1/8 Ripe Avocado

1 Tablespoon Egg White

1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice

How To:

  • Peel and mash the avocado into a smooth consistency.
  • Add the egg whites and lemon juice and mix well.
  • Apply on the face and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  • Rinse and moisturize your skin.

What I Love About this Mask

  1. One thing I love about this mask is the fact that it left my skin feeling super smooth and supple. I attribute this to the avocado, which is said to be rich in natural oils and antioxidants that nourish the skin. I can attest to this benefit.
  2. Second, egg whites are natural astringents, which means they are great for tightening the skin and they remove excess oils from the skin, which worked well for my oily skin.

That said, you might want to avoid egg whites if you have dry skin.

3. Oatmeal Face Mask

If you are looking for a soothing and calming mask that adds up as a face scrub, then you might want to try this one.

What you will need for a Single Application:

1 Teaspoon Rose Water

3 Teaspoons Oatmeal

1 Teaspoon Honey

1 Tablespoon Warm Milk

How To:

  • Mix the oatmeal thoroughly with the warm milk to form a thick paste.
  • Add the rose water and honey and mix.
  • Apply to your clean and damp face and leave to sit for 30 minutes

What I Love About this Mask

  1. I love that this mask also adds up as a facial scrub thanks to the oatmeal so that’s a plus.
  2. Honey is a natural antibacterial and it has antioxidant properties that leave my skin lustrous and youthful.
  3. The raw milk nourishes the skin cells and helps keep my skin deeply moisturized.
  4. Rosewater is an excellent toner that brightens and soothes the skin. I use rose water on my face daily and it has been such a game-changer!

There you have it! The three DIY face masks that I have tried for glowing skin. Are you a fan of homemade face masks? Which is your favorite one? Have you tried any of the ones listed in this article?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Until the next one,

Love and Light.
